Gary Moore - Why Are We So Entertained by Entertainment?
Gary Moore is an entrepreneur in Texas who has made his living through entertainment. His company, Premiere Cinemas, embodies doing something you love as a hobby, and making a business enterprise from it. Moore loves the business of movie entertainment and moreover the business of creating high quality cinemas to entertain communities.
With his enjoyment of film, cinema, games and all things entertainment, Gary Moore has had time to examine why it is such an integral part of the human experience. There’s more to being entertained than finding a way to spend your night – watching a movie or playing a game can literally change the way you think and live. For example:
- It’s Accessible. Unlike rock climbing, horseback riding or kayaking, forms of entertainment like movies and games are accessible in daily life. You might not have the time or money to take water skiing lessons, but you can typically spare the money and hours needed to catch a film at a local theater. Accessible entertainment is important to de-stressing from daily life.
- It Offers Social Connections. Movies, games and other forms of media-type entertainment provide reasons for people to come together and to bond. Experiencing a new movie with a group of people, and then talking about it after, can give you insights into who those people are, and it often makes them feel closer to you as a friend.
The next time you sit down with your tub of popcorn and glare up at that big silver screen in front of you, it’s interesting to think about all the people involved behind the scenes that worked to offer that experience. From the writer, to the producer, to the actors to the guy that built the theatre to show you the finished product, they’re all part of that experience of bringing the movie magic to the public.
Gary Moore - Top Reasons to Catch a Movie from a Theatre Expert
Just when naysayers once again predict the decline of movie-going, another smart-alecky survey comes out demonstrating that theatre attendance is actually booming, and more people are enjoying new ways to experience their movies at the cinema than ever before, whether in 2D, 3D, IMAX or D-BOX. Gary Moore has heard people predicting the decline of movie-going for three decades. Moore owns one of the largest cinema companies in the United States and, through it, has watched as millions of guests and growing continue to see more movies more often, just as Premiere’s slogan says. “It’s really fascinating how many things people predicted were going to put movie theatres out of business,” he said in an interview recently. “Back when radio and TV were becoming popular, a lot of people predicted folks would stop attending the cinema and just stay at home. We saw that again with the rise of things like cable TV and videotape. Then came video games and the internet to vie for people’s time and attention.”
But for each new technology or advancement in entertainment that has come along over the past decades, the act of physically going out to the theatre and enjoying movies on the giant silver screen has continued to thrive despite the critics, and today Hollywood is enjoying record success. “It’s rare that you don’t see a headline several times a year now saying another film has broken another box office record,” said Moore. “There are a lot of movies you sort of expect to set new records on, but it’s always refreshing also to see audiences discover smaller movies as well.
Hollywood continues doing a remarkable job creating diversified content to appeal to a diverse tastes and target audiences, it’s not a one-dimensional process.”
“When you catch a film, you’re doing more than sitting for two hours. You’re joining fellow movie-lovers in getting a first-hand experience together that you can’t really replicate anywhere else,” he added. “Regular movie nights bond people together, whether family or friends. You can laugh together, cry together, cheer together, or just sit there in awe and marvel at what you just saw like movies sometimes make you do. The only thing you can’t do is talk on your cell phone during the movie, that’ll get you an escort to the lobby!”
Entertainment analysts agree movies can provide benefits over and above the obvious benefit of simply watching a story unfold.
- Laugh Your Heart Out. A comedy in a room full of other people can be one of the most memorable experiences of your year. There’s a special feeling when you’re laughing your heart out with dozens of strangers who are all just as delighted by what’s on the screen as you are, and it’ll lift your mood almost instantly.
- Movies Provide Excitement. Your daily life might not involve car chases, martial arts fights or intense shootouts, but your movies can. The thrilling scenes in movies give you the spine tingling action that your life likely lacks.
If you haven’t recently spent time with your favorite films, or explored new cinema experiences, you’re missing out. For Gary Moore part, he says the role of his company is to make sure that his guests are enjoying their experience from the top-down when they choose to see their movies at Premiere. “We don’t control the movie content or what an audience chooses to see, honestly we don’t always know what will be hits or misses until the day they’re released. Our job is to present each one in the best way possible so that our guests enjoy the experience.”
